As one of the longest standing (and still most successful) freemium mobile games, it’s vital for Clash of Clans to keep finding new ways to excite its community of players. Both inside, and outside the game.
So for its 8th anniversary, we wanted to do something special for the community - create a one-off, mixed media, quiz show. The original idea was to have the real-life contestants in a single studio, with a CGI host - The Party King! However filming restrictions due to COVID meant a change of plan.
Instead the whole thing took place over Zoom, using motion capture to allow the actor playing the King to interact with the contestants - the different elements were then compiled and polished into the final film.
The show saw two members of the Clash of Clans game team take on two of the community's favourite creators - with all the questions chosen or inspired by the community themselves. The main film lived on YouTube, with the trailers shared across all the game’s socials to drive buzz and views.
